How the bill swap works

You don't buy or finance anything. Most homes go from first call to solar power in 60–90 days.

  1. Bill review & roof inspection

    Send us a recent power bill. We compare your usage and rate plan against a solar estimate, then inspect your roof's condition and sun exposure to size the system.

  2. Lock in your rate

    You see your solar rate in writing before you sign. It rises a fixed 3.5% a year, never more. We handle design, HOA paperwork and permits.

  3. Install & swap

    Panels go up at no cost, usually in one day. Once the utility approves the connection, you pay for solar power and your utility bill shrinks.

What is a solar bill swap?

It's a power purchase agreement (PPA). A solar provider owns the panels on your roof and sells you the power they make at a lower rate than the utility. Instead of paying Edison, PG&E or SDG&E for most of your electricity, you pay less for solar power. Read the full guide to how a solar PPA works.

Do I pay anything for the panels or installation?

No. The equipment, installation, permits and monitoring are included. You only pay for the power the system produces.

Will I still get a bill from my utility?

Yes, a smaller one. The utility still charges a monthly connection fee and bills for any power you use beyond what your panels produce. Your estimate adds both payments together, so the savings you see are real totals.

Can my solar rate go up?

Only by a fixed 3.5% a year, written into your agreement before you sign. Over the past 10 years, utility rates rose about 5–7% a year on average: 6.9% for Edison, 6.7% for SDG&E and 5.2% for PG&E, according to the CPUC Public Advocates Office. If that continues, the gap in your favor grows every year.

Who fixes the system if something breaks?

The whole system is covered by a 25-year bumper-to-bumper warranty: panels, inverter, wiring, parts and labor. If anything stops working, it gets repaired at no cost to you.

What if I sell my home?

The agreement can usually be transferred to the buyer, and the provider handles the paperwork. Lower power costs can be a selling point.

Why do you need a copy of my power bill?

Your bill shows your real monthly usage, your rate plan and your peak-hour charges. That lets us put your current costs next to your costs after the swap, instead of guessing from an average. A phone photo of every page works fine.

Will it work with my roof?

Most composition shingle and tile roofs qualify. Your free roof inspection checks condition and sun exposure before anything is designed.
